Anthony P. Sorrentino

Associate Vice President, Office of the Executive Vice President
University of Pennsylvania

Tony is the Associate Vice President in Penn’s Office of the Executive Vice President (EVP) -the office which leads the business operations of Penn.  Tony’s primary focus is on Penn’s economic and community development strategy and public affairs.

As a planner he developed the strategies for innovation – the Pennovation Works, and open space – Penn Park, and retail with the 40th Street commercial corridor. As an economic developer his focus is on Penn’s local and diverse purchasing practices. At the intersection of public affairs and economic development, Tony has been producing Penn’s economic impact reports since the year 2000, and his most recent project is a new campaign named Penn & Philly, which documents the social and economic impact of Penn on Philadelphia. 

Tony is a Philadelphia native who earned a Master of City Planning from Penn’s Weitzman School of Design, and a BA from La Salle University. He regularly presents and publishes on universities as Anchor Institutions, and is an advisor to the US Depart. Of housing and urban development on the role of Higher Education institutions in city planning, a Fellow of the Penn Institute for Urban Research, and on the Board of Directors of Visit Philadelphia.

Prior to Penn Tony was Director, Marketing and Communications for the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, where he developed the city’s “Campaign for Culture” to increase arts engagement and Public Relations Director for The Franklin Institute Science Museum.  He lives with his family in Chestnut Hill.
