Chaka Cumberbatch lives at the intersection of Social Marketing and Pop Culture. Her career has been a never-ending love letter to gaming, anime and cosplay communities, with a key focus on championing diversity and rewarding the passion of fandom communities to build best-in-class campaign strategies for everything from nostalgic franchises to emerging platforms.
After kicking off her journey riding shotgun on the Flying Nimbus with Goku as a Brand Manager for a host of anime and live action titles at FUNimation, Chaka went on to evolve an industry leading online global presence for Pikachu while leading the Social Marketing team at The Pokemon Company International. These days, she’s got her head in the clouds at Google, where she heads up the Social presence for Stadia, Google’s cloud gaming service.
Chaka is passionate about developing inroads and providing support for marginalized communities, both within online entertainment subcultures and the larger Marketing industry. In 2015, Chaka launched the #28DaysOfBlackCosplay campaign, an annual touchstone event celebrating Black cosplayers around the globe. Currently, she sits alongside industry leaders on the Adweek Social Media Council and serves as a Mentor for a group of up and coming marketing talent in the Adweek Rising Mentor program.
